Founded in 1801, the London Stock Exchange is one of the oldest stock markets in the world. The main market is home to over 1,300 large companies from 60 different countries and has a total market capitalisation of £3.8 trillion.
The Main Market is the LSE’s flagship market, regulated by the UK Listing Authority (UKLA). A company can list on the Main Market in either the Premium segment or the Standard segment, each with different regulatory standards. A company with a premium listing is expected to meet the UK’s highest standards of regulation and corporate governance. A standard listing allows companies to access the Main Market by meeting EU harmonised standards, a lower regulatory burden.
